My Magical tour to Hunza with my lovely wife
In the heat of July, my wife and I embarked on a journey to the enchanting realm of Hunza for our long-awaited honeymoon.
As we planned our trip, one decision lingered: how to traverse the terrain.
Opting for the scenic route, we ventured by road, navigating through Kohistan, Chilas, and Mansehra. Despite the lengthy drive (our first pit stop being Parhena Cottage in Narran), every moment was imbued with awe-inspiring vistas along the Karakoram Highway. Sitting beside my beloved, surrounded by the majesty of the mountains, I couldn't help but marvel at the grandeur of the Karakoram, a true wonder of the world.
In Hunza and Nagar, we found a sanctuary of culture and openness, where communal joy and tranquility reign supreme.
Witnessing the sunrise from the upper knot was a revelation, casting a golden light upon the rugged landscape.
Amidst these ancient mountains, one can't help but feel the resilience of humanity, aided by modern advancements yet rooted in timeless traditions. Our journey also led us to Baltit Fort, a testament to centuries of history and heritage. Originally built in the 13th century, the fort evolved over time, symbolizing the alliance between Hunza and Baltistan. Under the reign of Mir Nazem Khan, Baltit Fort underwent a remarkable transformation, its whitewashed walls commanding attention across the valley. Despite years of neglect, the fort was lovingly restored from 1990 to 1996, preserving its architectural integrity while incorporating modern preservation techniques.
Today, visitors are granted a window into the past, but the journey doesn't end there. Engage even deeper by enlisting the expertise of a local guide, who can regale you with tales of ancient settlements and human triumphs. These valleys cradle some of the most ancient glaciers in the formidable Karakoram range. However, modern developments threaten the pristine beauty of this landscape; the construction of hotels in the heart of the Hunza River poses a grave risk to its purity.
Entrance fees support the fort's upkeep, ensuring that future generations can continue to experience its timeless beauty and rich heritage. Hunza, with its breathtaking landscapes and storied past, left an indelible mark on our hearts, a testament to the enduring allure of this mystical land.
